![]() ![]() Tom can’t wait to get into the Canyon after our initial morning peek along the rim. The renovated log cabins are lovely, which, unfortunately, is where I spend most of my time in bed, the first of many, due to illness. It has the oldest unaltered historic lodge of all the Parks. It’s named for Ebenezer Bryce, a Mormon pioneer. The Park was established in 1928 after the railroad made it accessible. Extreme weather and temperature fluctuations create this mesmerizing landscape. At nearly 8,000 feet, Bryce Canyon is the top of the Grand Staircase created by massive tectonic plate activity millions of years ago. Continued erosion collapses the tops of the windows creating the bulbous spires called hoodoos and finally the spires are reduced to rubble on the Canyon floor. Frost–wedging carves windows in the fins. ![]() Centuries of erosion from heavy rains artfully sculpts the red rock initially into fins, the square pillar shapes closest to the rim. The Canyon is not a real canyon it isn’t carved by a river or stream. I immediately know this is hardly a place of just red rocks! As we walk the short distance from our cabin out to the rim of Bryce Canyon, we get our first glimpse of something very unique and magical. Transport: SUV or Tour Van depending on number of participants, inquire at time of booking.A friend warned us that, “the Utah Parks are a lot of red rocks”, implying that all six Parks are very similar. Each point enables one to experience and witness the unique forces of erosion that carved this beautiful landscape. We enter Bryce Canyon and stop at Sunrise, Sunset, Inspiration, and Bryce or Fairyland Points. Lunch Included.Īs we near Bryce Canyon, we are introduced to the unique rock formations known as hoodoos as we travel through Red Canyon. ![]() We will exit the park after a brief stop at Checkerboard Mesa or other areas along the way.Īs we continue our journey toward Bryce Canyon National Park, we will stop for lunch at one of the local cafes on Highway 89. This is a gateway to an equally beautiful and unique part of Zion National Park. Afterwards we will ascend the east canyon to the Zion Tunnel. From there, you head up the canyon and visit the Temple of Sinewava, Weeping Rock, Emerald Pools, and Court of the Patriarchs, depending on the amount of time available. We will also board the shuttle at this time and head further up the canyon. Our first stop is at the Human History Museum for a view of the West Temple formation. Here we enter this beautiful canyon with towering red and white sandstone cliffs. We depart from your hotel at 9:30-10:00 am and travel to Zion National Park.
